| Grundioso Records is run by Jamie Cameron and Martin Kirwan. Both have
a long history in the Scottish Indie scene, growing up around bands like
Jesus and Mary Chain, The Wake, BMX Bandits, Superstar, Eugenius, Teenage
Fanclub, and other artists like Alex Chilton, Dan Penn, Kim Fowley and
James Kirk who recorded and worked at Riverside Studios, run by Jamies
father, Duncan Cameron.
Jamie now works as an engineer / producer at Riverside Studios, which has been closely linked to almost every successful indie band to come out of Scotland in the last 20 years. In 1998, Jamie and Martin formed cult indie band Speeder who were signed by Infectious Records, and received widespread support from radio, TV and mainstream music press, as well as releasing a few Eps through smaller Indie labels, and ultimately an album through Creeping Bent Records. Jamie has played in many sessions at the studio for artists like James Kirk of Orange Juice and Future Pilot, and currently features in the new line-up of one of his favourite bands, the BMX Bandits. Jamie has also recently completely recording duties on the new album by Nice Man with Francis MacDonald of Shoeshine Records and Teenage Fanclub. Martin formed mainline in 1996 and featured on the mint records first release. Mint records was started by damian beattie and was home to old solar and manganese and of course mainline. They also released an internet only single “the spy” through tony wilson 's download site music 33. The band received favourable reviews in the NME and The big Issue before calling it a day. Martin also has an ongoing project with Canadian musician Rory Hanchard
called Pony. Rory and martin started a tape exchange whereby each would
contribute different part of a piece of music. The results have been included
on the artist book “tutu” along with other sound artist such
as Mark Vernon (hassle hound) and Pete Dowling (Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra,
Ken). |
